Q: What confirmation name did you choose for your confirmation and why?
A: Saint Anthony of Padua. He was made a Doctor of the Church because of his great preaching and teaching ability, and he has a pretty cool nickname, the "Hammer of Heretics." Plus, as the finder of lost things, he found me.
Q: What is one of your favorite saints? Why?
A: I have many, but my favorite is Saint John Fisher, Bishop of Rochester, who was made a Cardinal while he was locked in the Tower of London and who was martyred in England by Henry VIII. St. John Fisher was a defender of the Blessed Sacrament, the Sacred Priesthood, a promoter of higher education as the Chancellor of Cambridge University, and, of course, the defender of the Sacrament of Marriage. Also, the fact that when Henry VIII's men went to ransack his house to try and find anything they could use against him, all they found was the Saint's chalice and paten for saying Mass, a discipline (penitential rope) and a very larg library.
Q: What is your favorite feast day and why?
A: All Souls Day. It is a reminder that we all mist die and most, if not all, of us undergo purification in purgatory. Purgatory was also the easiest doctrine of the Church for me to accept in my conversion because, in a most perfect way, it displays God's infinite mercy (God has forgiven me my sins through confession, so I'm not going to Hell) and His infinite justice (reparations for my sins committed). This is also why the Church requires the priest to wear either violet or black on All Souls Day, because it is a Mass of reparations for the souls in Purgatory.
Q: What is one of your favorite Bible verses? Why?
A: Sirach 1:25 "If you desire wisdom, keep the commandments, and the Lord will supply it for you." Also, Sirach 4:25 "Never speak against the Truth, but be mindful of your ignorance." Why? To seek Wisdom is to seek God.
Q: Which sacrament do you most like celebrating as a priest and why?
A: The Holy Sacrifice of the Mass, but also Confession. As a priest, you are speaking in the person of Christ, the head, and when you pronounce the words, "I absolve you from your sins," you literally heal someone's soul.
Q: What is something most parishioners do not know about you that you wouldn't mind sharing with them?
A: I am very much an introvert, so at the end of the day, I become almost a hermit to recharge my batteries.
